The Civic Museum, founded in 1982 and located in the heart of Mattinata, was opened to the public only in 1990. Today the Museum organises temporary exhibitions. In Mattinata the story is still alive: on the Monte Saraceno, a necropolis belonging to the Daunia population was found, near the sea there are the remains of historical villas and in the historical centre there are still traces of the first houses, such as the “Pagliai” a rectangular base of low buildings, made up of embedded raw local limestone rocks.
